'Sara'S' review: Anchored by a powerful script, this simple film breaks the conventions of the feel-good template

Jude Anthany Joseph's third feature, after Ohm Shanti Oshana and Oru Muthassi Gadha, released on Prime Video at midnight today. This seemingly feel-good film, also seemingly made in limited spaces and with a shoestring budget, tackles a concept and issue never tested before in Malayalam cinema  circles. In Sara'S, we follow the life of Sara Vincent (Anna Ben), a young, bubbly, yet unapologetic filmmaker who struggles to make it big in the industry. She continuously assists male directors and is in the scripting works of her dream film. Sara has decided, from her school days, that she would not bear any kids. This is when she meets Jeevan (Sunny Wayne); her relationship with him subsequently brings her ideology and decision into a confrontation with the established norms of society, family and child-rearing.  Anna Ben in Sara'S The best aspect in which Sara'S has excelled, without doubt, is its hard-hitting taut script. Debutant Akshay Hareesh deserves praise for managin

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse- a magnificent animated adventure

Apart from it's attempts to revive the cinematic legend of the web-slinging superhero, Spider-Man, which included 2018's Venom, Sony Pictures idea of an animated feature based on the hero came to fruition last December. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sported a talented voice cast and promised with a never-before seen theatrical experience. Here's Reviewer-The Blog's review on ITSV.

The movie follows the life of Miles Morales, who first appeared in Marvel Comics in the year 2011. Miles is a teenager who lives a normal life, just like any other kid. And just like how any Spider-Man origin story goes, he gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gains superhuman powers. But what happens next is what makes this movie the interesting one from the other editions of the cinematic saga of the wall-crawling superhero. Miles sees Spider-people from alternate dimensions entering his reality- Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy (Spider-Girl), Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker and Spider-Ham. They have a serious threat before them- Wilson Fisk, one of Spidey’s toughest foes, aka Kingpin, as his experiments threaten to rip off the very fabric of existence.

The unconventional animation in Spider-Verse is one of the many reasons why this movie is a must watch. Not just for the comic book, cartoon-loving children audience but also the adult populace as well. Watching this film is similar to sifting and reading through the pages of a comic book. Its pace and visuals are strikingly similar to the manner in which the legend of the iconic superhero has been drawn in comic book pages. There’s an absolutely brilliant voice cast in this film, with the likes of Jake Johnson, Nicholas Cage and Hailee Steinfeld. They give life to the various characters in this film, who are as simple and humane. Even the villains in this film have their own stories to tell. The music just accentuates every moment that comes up, when it comes to Miles taking that leap of faith or even when Peter Parker swoops to save a falling Miles.

Made with exceptional creativity, quirky animation and a down-to-the-earth story, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is undoubtedly the best animated film to have come out in recent years. And it is the best tribute the makers could give to the iconic superhero.
