'Sara'S' review: Anchored by a powerful script, this simple film breaks the conventions of the feel-good template

Jude Anthany Joseph's third feature, after Ohm Shanti Oshana and Oru Muthassi Gadha, released on Prime Video at midnight today. This seemingly feel-good film, also seemingly made in limited spaces and with a shoestring budget, tackles a concept and issue never tested before in Malayalam cinema  circles. In Sara'S, we follow the life of Sara Vincent (Anna Ben), a young, bubbly, yet unapologetic filmmaker who struggles to make it big in the industry. She continuously assists male directors and is in the scripting works of her dream film. Sara has decided, from her school days, that she would not bear any kids. This is when she meets Jeevan (Sunny Wayne); her relationship with him subsequently brings her ideology and decision into a confrontation with the established norms of society, family and child-rearing.  Anna Ben in Sara'S The best aspect in which Sara'S has excelled, without doubt, is its hard-hitting taut script. Andy Serkis to direct Venom 2

Andy Serkis has made his mark felt in Hollywood as the person who made the art of motion-capture recognizable among the audience. His iconic roles as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings series, King Kong in Peter Jackson's King Kong, and Caesar in the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise have turned Serkis into the industry's most beloved mo-cap artist. He also had played acclaimed roles in the British ventures such as Longford (2006) and Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2010), which garnered him Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations. Serkis also portrayed the antagonistic Ulysses Klaue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing the roles in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and Black Panther (2018).

Only two films old in his directorial sojourn, the latest news to come from H-Town concerns this rookie himself. Sony Pictures has roped in Andy Serkis to direct Venom 2, the sequel to 2018's Venom.

Ruben Fleischer's Venom was one of 2018's biggest commercial hits, raking in $856 million in worldwide gross. However, the film met with disappointing reviews from critics, with many pointing out the sloppy direction and predictable story to be its' major drawbacks. Tom Hardy, on the other hand, seemed to prove that Eddie Brock was a character that the talented actor could handle with finesse.

It might have been this lucrative success with the Venom, that immediately pushed the studio to kick start production for the sequel. What made fans excited for the sequel was the post credits scene in Venom, which saw Eddie Brock visiting a prison to interview the incarcerated Cletus Kasady, a serial killer, who in comics dons the dangerously bloody Carnage, an offspring of the Venom symbiote. Even more exciting is the fact that the charismatic Woody Harrelson (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) portrays Kasady. Fans will undoubtedly be expecting a massive showdown between the vicious, blood-thirsty yet iconic characters.

Andy Serkis made his directorial debut with 2017's Breathe, following it up with the 2018's Netflix film Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.

Apart from Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson, Michelle Williams will return to star in Venom 2.

Venom 2 is expected to be released on October 2, 2020.

'Luca' review: The Pixar film is full of heart and empathy, but it's all too simple

Animation giant Pixar's latest motion picture, Luca, released on Disney+ recently. Directed by debutant Enrico Casarosa, the premise of the film, interestingly, featured an adolescent sea monster, with the ability to take human form when on the surface, discovering the joy of being amongst humans and nature with his new friends. With its fascinating premise and promising visuals, did it satiate expectations? Here's our review of Luca. Luca follows the adventures of Luca Paguro, a teenage sea monster (unlike the visceral, violent mythological ones), who is often warned by his parents that the human world is dangerous for them to visit and explore. Still, he wants to break free from his mundane underwater life and seek out something adventurous and daring. This is when he meets Alberto Scorfano, an affable and carefree sea monster who guides Luca to the human world. Even though contrasting personalities meet, their unanimous desire to explore the unknown unites them in a journey ...
