'Sara'S' review: Anchored by a powerful script, this simple film breaks the conventions of the feel-good template

Jude Anthany Joseph's third feature, after Ohm Shanti Oshana and Oru Muthassi Gadha, released on Prime Video at midnight today. This seemingly feel-good film, also seemingly made in limited spaces and with a shoestring budget, tackles a concept and issue never tested before in Malayalam cinema  circles. In Sara'S, we follow the life of Sara Vincent (Anna Ben), a young, bubbly, yet unapologetic filmmaker who struggles to make it big in the industry. She continuously assists male directors and is in the scripting works of her dream film. Sara has decided, from her school days, that she would not bear any kids. This is when she meets Jeevan (Sunny Wayne); her relationship with him subsequently brings her ideology and decision into a confrontation with the established norms of society, family and child-rearing.  Anna Ben in Sara'S The best aspect in which Sara'S has excelled, without doubt, is its hard-hitting taut script. Debutant Akshay Hareesh deserves praise for managin

Spider-Man: Far From Home Teaser Trailer - Breakdown

Well...now we know our friendly neighborhood Spidey will be back after being turned into proverbial dust post Thanos's apocalyptic snap in the events of Avengers: Infinity War. However that is not the only possibility we take back after Marvel Studios released the first teaser trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home, the sequel to the hit Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017).

After much anticipation from the fans of the franchise, they have now got a decent look at what Far From Home will be like and the new characters that will be introduced into the ever-growing universe, that is becoming as colorful and eventful as the multiple universes crafted in the comic book pages. Thanks to the teaser, fans have been hinted of new looks, relationships, and threats that will accompany the beloved web-slinger in his exploits.

Here's the detailed analysis and breakdown of the teaser by Reviewer-The Blog.

So ripping off the trailer one by one...

1) Spidey's a celebrity & the sign on the cheque...

The teaser kicks off showing an event where Spider-Man aka Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is cheerfully speaking to a public audience, accompanied by his Aunt may (Marisa Tomei). The event could possibly be a fundraiser or a club party (whatever). However, later when May and Peter slam their palms with a high-five, we see Tony Stark's aide Happy Hogan wriggling through a door, holding a huge cheque. What invokes curiosity, is that, the cheque appears to be signed by Pepper Potts, Tony's wife, whose existence remained uncertain after Infinity War. Why has Pepper signed the cheque and not Tony? This is the first doubt haunting the minds of fans and audiences alike. Is Tony dead? Fans had already speculated the death of the flagship character in Endgame, given that the Endgame trailer showed slight hints of his demise. Now that Pepper seems to signing cheques and arranging fundraisers or likely events- fans are unfortunately left to wonder on the future of the genius-billionaire-playboy-philanthropist in the MCU.

2) Peter's Europe tour

The teaser shows Peter packing his bags to go on a school trip to New York. he gets his passport, he buys supplies from Delmar's Bodega (btw, what happened to these guys after Infinity War), and finds himself on crossroads on whether to take his suit with him. He says, "It's just a school trip," which means that he may not want to bring along his suit with him. Or is it because the suit may remind Peter of its' maker, Tony Stark, who might have died in Endgame (God, I hope its' not true) ?

3) Yet another romance...

Ever since Michelle (Zendaya) revealed that her friends called her MJ (an OMG moment) in Spider-Man: Homecoming, fans hinted at a possible romance between the two characters, which was made popular thanks to the intense chemistry displayed on screen by Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. Set photos from FFH of the suit-clad Peter and MJ swinging with the help of Spidey’s webs in an incident had confirmed fan theories that the upcoming movie could see the blossoming of a romantic relationship between the two.

 4) Nick Fury

Another character, who has been confirmed, will come back in Far From Home is none other than Nick Fury (Samuel L.Jackson), ex-director of S.H.I.E.L.D. The last we saw of him was in the post-credit scene of Infinity War, when he, along with Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), were disintegrated after The Snap; but only after he used a pager to alert Captain Marvel. Nick Fury will also play a central character in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie, where a digitally de-aged version of Sam Jackson portrays a younger Fury.

Here, Fury is first shown tranquilizing Peter’s best bud Ned (Jacob Batalon) with a dart gun. At first sight, I was reminded of Winter Soldier-like threat (that stealth entry and dart shot), but then the very familiar voice appears, “Very nice to finally meet you, Spider-Man.”

Fury is also seen to be standing looking out of a window in a high-rise building wearing his usual black suit. But why is the one-eyed man standing in one of the top floors in his usual director look, when his espionage agency, S.H.I.E.L.D, collapsed post the events of Captain America: Winter Soldier? Is it because the defunct organization comes back to existence in a possible time-travel experiment, something which is often being predicted in fan theories of Avengers: Endgame?

Maria Hill is also seen with Fury, firing shots at a huge creature made of earth, of whose identity is being given in detail below.

5) The Elementals

The four-member group of Elementals are making their debut appearance in the MCU. For starters, the Elementals are a quartet of super-powered humanoid beings that have destructive control over the elements of water, earth, fire, and wind. They are Hydron (water), Hellfire (fire), Zephyr (wind), and Magnum (earth). Many of us may have quickly reckoned that the huge sand-covered creature is Sandman, and the colossal being attacking Peter with water is Hydro-Man. But, as far as the fact that the Elementals appear in the movie is concerned, the comparatively popular supervillains might just not make their appearance in this film. The entry of the extradimensional group of villains could be crucial to the path of not just Spider-Man, but of the entire MCU; now also that the notorious alien race of Skrulls are making their first appearance in Captain Marvel.

6) Spidey’s new suits

Set photos released months ago revealed the exhilarating truth that Peter Parker could be donning new suits. One of them was revealed to be a red-and-black, a slight variant to the iconic red-and-blue suit. Also, a completely black-themed stealth suit was also shown, that has been made and given by Fury himself, confirmed by the presence of a S.H.I.E.L.D logo on it. Again, this hints the possible resurgence of the agency, of which the reason could probably be a time-travel incident that changed the course of events (come on Endgame!!).

7) Here comes…MYSTERIO…

And then there is that epic entry that the studio and MCU has made so much enjoyable over its’ decade long span of film-making. This time, it is Mysterio (Quentin Beck), played by the brilliant Jake Gyllenhal. The character, despite being Spider-man’s frequent foe, is here being depicted as someone who comes to Peter’s rescue. But confirmations can wait, because, like every movie that has come out of MCU, things could change over the course of events. Mysterio could possibly end up as an unanticipated threat, paving way for an epic battle between the web-slinger and the fishbowl-helmet wearing illusionist. In the teaser, Mysterio is shown appearing in a smoke of green, shooting green-colored beams at Hydron, and later flying and powerfully resisting the forceful attacks from the Elemental. The arrival of Mysterio into the MCU is an exciting development, and there is no doubt that Gyllenhal will do justice to the character, making him a worthy addition to the star-studded franchise.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will debut on July 5, 2019. Hopefully, it will set off a new phase in the MCU, as this is the film coming after the much awaited Avengers:Endgame.

Reviewer-The Blog's Top 10 Films of 2015

2015 saw movies that exceeded expectations, movies that were much hyped and failed to provide and some which we were sure wouldn't make the mark. Even though we saw the commercial successes of sequels, 2015 showed us that audiences and critics loved original ideas as well. There were unexpected successes and disappointing failures which gave that mixed feeling of satisfaction and frustration in the movies of 2015. Beginning with Woman in Black:Angels of Death and wrapping up with the much anticipated Star Wars:The Force Awakens, 2015 has been a year of surprises and failures, admiration and dissatisfaction.  Not to forget that 2015 was lauded by the success of female-centric films. As critics spent their time whining away with issues such as gender gap, 2015 showed that Hollywood still has hope left for gender equality.  As 2015 comes to an end, Reviewer-The Blog has compiled its Top 10 Films of 2015 .
